The Channel Islands are located 100km south of England, opposite the French Normandy coast. They represent the southern most part of the British Isles and possess a flora and fauna that is subtly different from that of the United Kingdom. This is especially true of the marine molluscs which contain many southern European species that are absent from the United Kingdom and the eastern English Channel.
